I just received a review copy of this desirable must-have book called The Purple Book...
Oh how I love the pink powdered pages that almost smell like the women in the Fin the Siècle and the sensual written words of Edgar Allan Poe. The poetic design, the beautiful thick matte paper, the subtile typefaces, the amazing printwork and the huge size of the book are all in balance.
The authors Angus Hyland and Angharad Lewis made this luxurious book with a perfect curated collection of 21 contemporary artists and illustrators which explores eroticism, fantasy and sensuality. The artists were commissioned to illustrate five classic literary text that inspire the themes of the book, 5 of them are being interviewed and showing their portfolio. Some of the artists included are reviewed on this blog: Laura Laine, Martine Johanna, Vania Zouravliov, Makika Sugawa, Jules Julien, Conrad Roset, Amelie Hegardt, Jesse Auersalo, Izzie Klingels...
The title of the book is inspired by the 1890s infamous literary quarterly of the The Yellow Book.
It revisits the intimate language of writers known for sensual storytelling, including text by Edgar Allan Poe, James Joyce, Chritina Rosetti and George Bataille. Love it!
